REVIEW: As many of you may have guessed, both from how much I sing her praises on this blog and the fact that the two books she released in 2013 were in my ‘Top Ten Books of 2013’ list, I absolutely adore Katherine Webb’s works. As you may also have guessed from previous reviews, these books of hers have so many twists and turns that it is difficult to review them without giving too much of the excellent plotline away – so I shall keep this review brief. All I can say is that the novel took many unexpected paths that shocked, horrified and delighted me, and I cried far more than once at this tragic tale of love, betrayal and violence. Webb’s historical setting is clearly well-researched and beautifully, vividly captured, and the characters are all lively and engaging – even the villains of the piece! My favourite, however, was tortured soul Johnathan Alleyn, and within this novel his character development is astonishing. I cannot recommend this book – or any of her others – as highly as they deserve.
